01The Service

What Our Roofing Service Covers

Roof repairs and roofing work across Cambridge and the Fens: leak tracing and repair, slipped or broken tile and slate replacement, flat roof work, leadwork repairs, and the fascias, soffits and guttering that keep water moving off your roof and away from your walls. We also carry out the roof structures and coverings on our own extensions, so roof carpentry is done in-house by an NVQ Level 2 qualified carpenter.

Our roofing clients are homeowners with a damp patch that keeps coming back, slipped tiles after a storm, overflowing gutters, or a flat roof that's reached the end of its life. Landlords call us for fast, fixed-price repairs that keep tenants dry and properties protected.

You need a roofer the moment water gets in, and ideally before. A damp stain on a ceiling is the end of a journey the water started some distance away; the skill is in tracing it back to the actual entry point, not just patching where it landed.

Roof work done from ladders and guesswork is how the same leak gets 'repaired' three times. We inspect properly, quote one fixed price for the real cause, and back the repair with our workmanship guarantee, terms vary by job type, so ask when we quote.

02Why It Matters

What a Leaking Roof Costs You

Water is the most destructive force your house faces, and a roof leak is water with a head start. Left alone, a small leak saturates insulation, rots roof timbers, stains ceilings and feeds mould, and every one of those is a separate repair bill on top of the roof itself. A slipped tile fixed this week costs a fraction of the joist repair it causes next year.

The costliest pattern is the repeat repair: someone patches the visible symptom, the leak returns with the next heavy rain, and you pay again. Water travels along timbers and felt before it drips, the stain is rarely below the entry point. Tracing, not patching, is what ends the cycle.

Blocked or broken guttering does quieter damage: water sheets down walls, saturates brickwork, and in winter freezes and blows the faces off bricks. A gutter repair is cheap; repointing and brick replacement are not.

Common Mistakes Homeowners Make

  • 01

Patching the ceiling stain instead of tracing the leak, the water's entry point is often metres away from where it drips.

  • 02

Ignoring a slipped tile because it's small: one missing tile is an open door for wind-driven rain.

  • 03

Letting gutters overflow year after year: the water goes into your walls and foundations instead of the drain.

  • 04

Paying for 'roof repairs' from someone who never actually got up and looked, a quote made from the pavement is a guess.

  • 05

Accepting open-ended investigation work: you want a fixed price for a defined repair.

05

The finished work is inspected with you from the ground and photographed where helpful, and the site is left clean. Your repair is covered by our workmanship guarantee.

04Why CV Carpentry

What You Get With CV Carpentry

Roof work is about trust: you can't see the repair from your sofa. Here's how we earn it.

Traced, Not Patched

We find where the water actually gets in before we quote, so the repair fixes the cause, not just the stain.

One Fixed Price

Quoted after a proper inspection and honoured to the end. The price we quote is the price you pay.

Roof Carpentry In-House

If a leak has reached the timbers, the structural repairs are done by an NVQ Level 2 qualified carpenter, no need for a second firm.

Honest Assessments

If your roof has years left in it, we'll say so. If it's at the end of its life, we'll show you why: photographs included where they help.

Tidy & Respectful

Roofing is dirty work done cleanly: gardens and paths protected, old materials removed, site left tidy.

Guaranteed & Insured

£5m public liability cover while we work, and our workmanship guarantee on the finished job.

05In Detail

Our Roofing Services in Detail

The main types of roofing work we carry out across Cambridge and the Fens, and how each is done properly.

Leak Tracing & Roof Repairs

The core of our roofing work: finding where water is actually entering and fixing it there. Slipped, cracked or missing tiles and slates replaced; flashings and leadwork repaired; ridges and verges repointed where they've failed.

Because water travels, we always check the area around the obvious fault, the repair isn't finished until the whole entry path is closed.

Flat Roofs

Flat roof repairs and replacements on extensions, garages and dormers. Flat roofs fail at edges, joints and upstands first, so inspections start there, and repairs are specified to the roof, not to a one-size-fits-all tube of sealant.

Where a flat roof is at the end of its life, we'll tell you honestly and quote a fixed price for replacement rather than selling you a third patch.

Fascias, Soffits & Guttering

Replacement and repair of fascias, soffits and guttering, the rainwater system that protects everything below it. Sagging, leaking or overflowing gutters re-aligned, re-jointed or replaced, and timber fascias repaired or replaced.

As carpenters, rotten fascia and soffit timber is squarely our trade, cut out properly and replaced, never capped over.

Roof Structures & Extension Roofing

The roof structures on our extensions, joists, timbers and coverings, are built in-house by an NVQ Level 2 qualified carpenter, which means the structure and the covering are one firm's responsibility, end to end.

If a leak has already reached your roof timbers, see our carpentry service for how the structural side is repaired.

Questions

Roofing Questions, Answered Straight

It depends entirely on the cause: a slipped tile is a very different job from failed leadwork. That's why every job is priced individually after a free site visit with a proper inspection, and you get one fixed price before any work starts.

Yes, tracing leaks to their source is the core of the service. Water travels along timbers and felt before it drips, so the stain is rarely below the entry point. We inspect properly and fix the cause, not the symptom.

Yes, repairs and replacements on extensions, garages and dormers. If your flat roof is genuinely at the end of its life, we'll say so honestly and quote a replacement rather than a patch that won't last.

Yes, repairs and full replacement, including rotten timber fascias cut out and replaced properly. Guttering is re-aligned, re-jointed or renewed so water goes down the drain, not down your walls.

Active leaks are prioritised: call and we'll give you an honest answer on timing. The site visit and quote are free either way.

No. Most roofs need a repair, not a replacement, and we'll tell you straight which yours needs. If a repair will genuinely serve you for years, that's what we'll quote.
