When you call, you're speaking to the person who will visit, quote and do the work. Because we're already in the city, site visits are easy to arrange and are always free. We're available on the phone seven days a week, 8am to 10:30pm every day, so you can book a visit around work, school runs and tenants without chasing anyone. Cambridge's housing stock is one of the most varied in the region: Victorian and Edwardian terraces in Romsey and Mill Road with their chimney-breast alcoves, 1930s semis off Cherry Hinton Road, post-war estates, and modern developments at Trumpington Meadows and Eddington. Each era brings its own quirks, and we've worked in all of them. The jobs Cambridge homeowners call us for most are storage and second fix work in period terraces (alcove units, wardrobes, doors and skirting), bathroom refits in tight terrace footprints, decking and fencing in long narrow gardens, and extensions where the city's property prices make moving far more expensive than improving. We also cover the villages around the city, Girton, Histon, Impington, Coton, Grantchester and the Shelfords among them. Village properties often have more scope for extensions, garden structures and outdoor work, and the same free site visit and fixed price applies wherever you are. Being genuinely local matters beyond convenience. We know which streets have tight access, which estates have parking restrictions, and how to work considerately in terraced rows where the neighbours are a wall away. That local knowledge is built into how we plan every Cambridge job. Cambridge's calendar shapes the work too. Rental properties refresh between tenancies, family homes get their improvements booked around school holidays, and garden work, decking, fencing, sheds, fills the spring and summer. Whenever you call, the process is the same: free site visit, fixed price, tidy work, guaranteed finish. 02What We Do Here ## Services Available in Cambridge Every service we offer is available across Cambridge, quoted at a fixed price, carried out tidily, and finished with a walkthrough before we call it done. ### Carpentry in Cambridge First and second fix carpentry, bespoke joinery and fitted furniture, measured twice, cut once, finished properly. Charlie visits, measures, quotes and leads the work himself, there's no salesman, no handover gap, and no chasing an office for answers. 02Every job is quoted at one fixed price, so the price you're given after the free site visit is the price you pay. Larger jobs are paid in clear stages, a 25% deposit, agreed milestone payments, and the balance on completion. 03The work is backed properly: NVQ Level 2 qualified carpentry, £5 million public liability insurance on every job, and a workmanship guarantee on the finished result, ask for the terms when we quote, as they vary by job type. 04The reviews are local and verifiable: a perfect 5.0 rating on Google from 8 verified reviews, with customers praising punctuality, tidy working and communication, the things that matter most when someone's working in your home. 05Tidiness is part of the job, not a bonus. Customers consistently mention clean, respectful working in their reviews, dust sheets down, tools packed away, and the space left usable at the end of every day. In a lived-in Cambridge terrace, that matters as much as the finish itself. 06Availability that fits real life. We're on the phone 8am to 10:30pm seven days a week, so you can call after work, at the weekend, or whenever the problem appears, and book a site visit without taking a day off. 04Recent Work ## Real Projects, Finished Properly Completed staircase renovation with oak treads by CV Carpentry & Construction Bespoke timber garden shelter with decked base, built by CV Carpentry & Construction 05Know Your Property ## Common Property Issues We See in Cambridge ### Awkward Period Layouts Victorian and Edwardian terraces weren't built for modern life: no storage, narrow halls, chimney breasts eating into every room. Bespoke alcove cabinets, under-stairs storage and made-to-measure wardrobes turn that dead space into useful space without touching the structure. ### Sticky Doors and Tired Second Fix Older Cambridge homes move with the seasons, and doors that once closed perfectly start binding, latches stop catching, and skirting gaps open up. Proper second fix carpentry, planing, re-hanging, refitting, sorts these permanently rather than with another tub of filler. ### Clay Soil Movement Much of Cambridge sits on shrink-swell clay that moves between wet winters and dry summers. It shows up as cracked paths, moved fence posts and sticking doors, and it matters enormously when building extensions, garden walls and decking, where footings have to be sized for the ground, not the brochure. ### Damp in Solid-Wall Properties Pre-1930s terraces have solid walls that behave very differently from modern cavity construction. Bathrooms in these homes need proper extraction and correct materials, and repointing must use mortar suited to soft gault brick, the wrong approach traps moisture and makes things worse. ### Rental and HMO Wear Cambridge's large rental market means heavy wear on doors, locks, floors and fittings. Our handyman and second fix services keep rental properties in good order between tenancies, fixed prices make landlord approvals simple, and we can work around tenants' schedules. ### Ageing Roof Carpentry Period roof timbers in Cambridge's older homes suffer from woodworm, rot at bearing ends and decades of bodged alterations. We handle carpentry-related roofing repairs in-house, and for full re-roofs, we work with an established roofing firm with over 30 years' experience. ### Tight Access and Considerate Working Terraced streets mean shared walls, tight side access and neighbours on both sides. We plan deliveries, parking and noisy work around the street, keep access ways clear, and treat your neighbours' patience as part of the job, because on a Cambridge terrace, it is. 06How It Works ## Our Process in Cambridge The same straightforward process wherever you are, no surprises, no chasing, no fine print. 01 ### Get in Touch Call, message or send the form. Yes. We're based in CB3 and cover the whole city, Newnham, Trumpington, Romsey, Chesterton, Arbury, Cherry Hinton, King's Hedges and everywhere in between, plus surrounding villages. ### How quickly can you get to a job in Cambridge? Because we're based in the city, site visits are straightforward to arrange, usually within days, at a time that suits you. Call any day of the week between 8am and 10:30pm and we'll book you in. ### How much does carpentry cost in Cambridge? Every job is different, which is why we quote a fixed price after a free site visit rather than guessing over the phone. You'll get one clear price for the whole job, so there are no surprises at the end. ### Do you offer emergency call-outs in Cambridge? We're available seven days a week, 8am to 10:30pm, so most urgent problems, a door that won't secure, storm-damaged fencing, can be looked at quickly. Call 07863 788018 and we'll tell you honestly how soon we can get there. ### Do you work in conservation areas and on older properties? Yes, much of our Cambridge work is in Victorian and Edwardian terraces, where matching existing joinery, using appropriate materials and respecting the character of the property is part of the job. For extensions, we can handle planning permission and building control on your behalf. ### Can you build storage into a small Cambridge terrace? It's one of the jobs we do most. Alcove cabinets, under-stairs storage, window seats and made-to-measure wardrobes are measured precisely to your walls, which in a period terrace are rarely straight, and finished to look like they've always been there. ### How does payment work? Larger jobs are typically a 25% deposit, further payments at agreed milestones, and the balance on completion. Smaller jobs are usually 50% upfront and 50% on completion. We accept bank transfer, cash and card. ### Are you insured to work in my home? Yes. We hold £5 million public liability insurance, and every job is covered by our workmanship guarantee, the terms vary by job type, so ask when we quote. ### Do you take on small jobs in Cambridge? Yes. Planing a door, re-hanging after new carpets, fitting locks, shelving, repairs, the small jobs are a big part of what we do locally. Same fixed pricing, same standard, same tidy finish. ### Can you work around tenants or busy households? Yes. We're used to working in occupied homes, and our long hours, 8am to 10:30pm seven days a week, make it easier to agree start and finish times that cause minimum disruption. ### Do you cover the villages outside Cambridge? Yes, Girton, Histon, Impington, Coton, Grantchester, the Shelfords and beyond. And if you're further out in Cambridgeshire, call and ask; if you're within reach, we'll come to you. ### How do I get a quote in Cambridge?
